Eastern Exposure 3: Underachievers
Dan Wolfe
1996, 32 minutes
Current Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Filmer Dan Wolfe goes for a Citizen Kane vibe here, presenting Eastern Exposure 3: Underachievers in black and white. As this is an East Coast video (mostly NYC, Philly and Florida), the spots are raggedy compared to West Coast videos. Besides the heavy street footage, there is ample vert, mini and park action. The soundtrack is mostly "indie" rock with a dash of hip-hop and metal.

Dan Wolfe's Underachievers has great full parts from Tim O'Connor, Donny Barley and Reese Forbes. However, one skater steals the show. On a scale of one to five, Ricky Oyola's part is a six. My head was spinning by the time his part was over, skating without a soundtrack, a minute or two AFTER Metallica's "Damage, Inc" ended. He shows no mercy here and his style epitomizes good street skating: fast, furious and fearless. I feel sorry for all the streets, handrails, ledges and poles he destroys. Just a few beefs with this video keep me from giving it a perfect rating. There are two long and unnecessary skatepark segments. If you're not Danny Way or you don't skate vert, I don't want to see you wearing a helmet in a video. That doesn't pump me up. Also, a message to Quim Cardona: if you're going to freestyle, use a skateboard, not your mouth. Otherwise, check this video out. It rules.
