Skypager Underworld Element
1993, 20 minutes
Current Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Before Element was Element and before Tosh Townend, Underworld Element was a mostly east coast off-shoot of New Deal. Their one video before dropping the Underworld was Skypager. A relatively short video with straight up street skating starring Jeff Pang who was really big in NY in the early 90's, Pepe Martinez (R.I.P.), Harold Hunter and others. Lots of big pants, small wheels and low curbs.

I remember when I got this when it came out in 93. I was hyped on it then and I'm still hyped on it now. An obvious plus is the Julien Stanger part. He does the sickest gap ollie to FS tailslide. Pepe Martinez is also really impressive and busts out some serious tech lines with lots of switch. I really like Harold Hunter, Chris Hall and Rick Ibaseta's sections as well. They skate in a style very representative of the era; raw street skating. One of the best things about the video is that it's set to a really dope DJ mix of some classic rap joints (Run-DMC's Sucker MC's) and some tracks that were new at the time but classics now (Gang Starr's Dwyck). I can't think of any other videos that did this and don't know why. It works really well. If you come across Skypager check it out, it makes a great companion to Da Deal Is Dead and Whatever.
