7 Year Glitch
New Deal
2002, 39 minutes
Current Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

New Deal’s 7 Year Glitch would prove to be the last offering from this legendary company. This video features a broad range of styles and spots. The New Deal squad attacks Europe, Australia, and some of the most obscure American hideouts ever explored. The skating itself, ranges from intricate technical lines to straight up "hammer time."

Have you ever noticed how there are certain names that seem to automatically make someone a great skater? All three Kenny’s have awesome styles, as exhibited here by Mr. Reed. One of the Gonzalezes also has a part, and he certainly does not disappoint. Chad’s Tim Tim and Bartie throw down some real good parts, as well. My favorite thing about this video, though, is that it’s a real treat to see a new part from Ricky Oyola, who’s one of the most stylish and creative skaters out there. Actually, the entire New Deal team has some of the most stylish and creative skaters around. I’d go so far as to say that 7 Year Glitch is the best skate video of 2002.

7 Year Glitch is perhaps one of the most underrated videos of all time. This video follows one of the strongest forms a skateboarding video can have: a diverse group of skaters with different styles, a broad range of original spots and great filming/editing. Every single skater has an amazing part in this video but none shine like Ricky Oyola. Ricky Oyola represents exactly what skateboarding should be. His skateboarding transcends tricks. His style is flawless. Nobody in skateboarding hunts down and destroys spots like Oyola, who manages to put together a full part without hitting one rail, ledge, or gap. Instead, he skates several makeshift contraptions, most of which appear in the midst of several long and fluid lines. Like I said, the video is great, but Oyola is flawless.
