Dying to Live is a big-budget production which rivals Flip's Sorry for being the most anticipated video of 2002. The skating is almost entirely one-trick bangers down handrails and over stairs. The skaters, from Jon Allie to Jamie Thomas, are all top-notch pros at the peak of their games. As for the soundtrack, it is almost all classic/heavy rock tunes that belong on FM stations with names like "The Riff" or "Wizard 98."

Dying To Live is an epic skate video. The tricks are so gnarly that they are often shown repeatedly, from different camera angles and in slow motion just so we, the audience, can fully appreciate just how gnarly they are. The downside to this presentation is that the team comes across more like professional stuntmen than skaters. To contrast, John Rattray's part shows natural style and his obvious enjoyment of riding a skateboard. His is easily my favorite part. He gets props for starting with a frontside 360 off a curb, which is very refreshing for a stair/rail video like this. Lindsey Robertson also has a killer part that gets better with successive viewings, even if the slo-mo intro is melodramatic. Jamie Thomas has the last sequence of course and it's a good one. However, I couldn't help but wonder if he one-ups Jesus by seeming to skate on water in his introduction. His part is thought provoking and I found myself pondering the vexing theological question: does God listen to Rush?
