Current Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Play is a raw and unpolished early 90's street skating video. Shot entirely on the popular dinosaur cams of the time, Play offers up a series of line orientated street parts. Even, Bucky Lasek gives up the vert ramp for a while in this one. Only a third of the actual Powell team is featured in this 1993 video.

Sometime around 1992 Stacy Peralta (the real mastermind behind Powell) left the company. Powell went on to get its ass financially kicked by World Industries, file for bankruptcy, and lay off most of its staff. What resulted from the tough times was basically a reactionary approach to video making. Rather than continue the tradition of high budget and innovative techniques, Powell chose to imitate its competitors. Play is a prime example of the early 90's Powell approach. Unfortunately, as much as Powell managed to copy the visual aesthetic of other rogue competitors, the end result is less than desirable. What you get is a collection of some of the most unoriginal and stylistically challenged skateboarding ever filmed. Toe-drags, mob flips, bad pushing, etc.! God, would the madness ever stop. Fortunately, it did!
