The Truth Hurts
Thrasher
1993, 38 minutes
Current Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Remember the days of big pants, little wheels, and flipping your board so many times that you were dizzy before the trick ended? The Truth Hurts brings you back to this era and does a thorough job with the inclusion of pools, vert, street, mini, and parks, plus special features such as antics from S*m*n W**ds**ck, a Body Count interview, a Salmon Agah interview, and an entire segment dedicated to Burnside. Also, there is an alternative boarding segment that features Sluggo doing some snowboarding plus some ice boarding and dirt boarding is also featured. In between segments, there is plenty of entertaining filler, such as live crab eating and car destroying fun. The music is mostly fast punk rock with some hip-hop and such mixed in. Don’t miss the Gonz footage after the credits, ya hear?

Yaaaarghh! The Trutheees doths Hurteee mee non-wooden one hopper. Not hurt-y-ingggg in a mild painfully way, like the babble of Joe Walsh songs, but more like inarrrrguable pain of losin' me leg and me testicle. In that case, the truth really did hurt. In this video, the pain is not so perrrsonal because I'm not involved. Me only attachment is with me seein' orrrgans, and what I saw only looked painful for a thirrrd of the time. Thee rest was quite pleasing, featuring Buuurrrrnside, Australia, and numerrrous pool sessions.

This video was made in the dark ages of skating, and the lack of pop gets annoying being that no one gets more than 6 inches off the ground. As an added ill mark, the kind folks at Thrasher never really tell you who is skating. The video is made up of a series of montages and your guess is all you have to determine who is featured on the tube. But The Truth Hurts does give a good variety of skating terrain. It really shows the entire spectrum of skateboarding world provides some interesting skateboarding antics in between. It’s really nice to see some crazy mini ramp and pool skating thrown in the mix, which is a nice break to the street/vert monotony of many modern day videos. There’s also a decent collection of music that drives the skating home and brings the video together nicely.
