One of the videos that made Stereo a leading company of its time, Tincan Folklore features skating from Ethan Fowler, Carl Shipman, Chris Pastras, Matt Rodriguez, a young Jason Lee, and several other Stereo cats. The video has an artistic tone, and the soundtrack of mellow sounds (many of which are performed by Stereo team members) matches the skating and cinematography. Tincan Folklore runs a little over a half-hour long.

Any skate video involving Jason Lee is worth checking out. Even though he is now a thing of the past (skateboarding-wise anyway), his mark left on skating is legendary. If you aren't familiar with him by now, I suggest you start by getting this video. His part is entirely made up of really old footage, which kinda bummed me out, but it still reflects his mythical style. Ethan Fowler doesn't really look like he does today in his part, but you can tell it’s him by the 360 flip he snaps over a fire hydrant to begin his part. The overall feel of the video is really mellow and enjoyable with lots of instrumental music and black and white film collages. The feel of this video is like no other I have seen, and it makes me wish that Stereo was still around to produce more works like this.

Tincan Folklore is a very refreshing video to watch during these handrail-dominated days. I’m getting tired of today’s video style of successive gap and handrail tricks edited to pass as quickly as possible by cutting out much of the run-up and landing. Well, Tincan Folklore has none of that. Long street lines are the dominant form of skating in this video featuring what has to be one of the most stylish teams ever. The video collages may be a bit much for some viewers, as I often find myself fast-forwarding back to the skating. Another possible disappointment is that Jason Lee’s part is entirely old home movies of him as a teenager skating on the street in front of his house, but I think he was trying to make a statement with that. With the recent return of Stereo Skateboards, we can only hope that they re-release their video collection, so that more people can find and enjoy them.
