1996, 30 minutes
Current Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Welcome to Hell is a formidable look into the world of skateboarding with the high-flying action of the Toy Machine skateboard team. It’s mostly street rippin' and the skating is basically the same as you would expect from a top quality video modern video, even though it was made in 1996. There’s even the added bonus of a section with the original Zero team. The sound track features the likes of Lard, the Misfits, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Sonic Youth, Pink Floyd and more. Also featured is one of the most gnarly slam sections ever witnessed in a thrash-dog movie.

This is one of the greatest videos ever made! The skating is big and fast and the music has you rockin' out while you’re going crazy over the skating. Jamie Thomas' section alone is probably in the top 3 video parts I have ever seen. Everyone in the video has an original style and they skate with confidence and power that is unsurpassed. Amazingly, the skating in this video has not become outdated in the last five years, showing the quality and innovative style that the Toy Machine has circa 1996. Watch this video and you’ll be fired up for the next week, but beware of the slam section because it is scary and painful to watch.

My first impression of Welcome to Hell was that it wasn't up to par due to the lack of technical tricks. Keep in mind, I didn't first see this until a few years after its release, and at the time I did see it, it wasn't up to my "standards." However, as I began to realize that good skating doesn't have to be the latest hammers and tech lines, I began to take a liking to Toy Machine's earlier creation. Brian Anderson's part still blows me away. Between frontside blunting Hubba and skating to Pink Floyd, his part is beyond satisfying. Ed and Jamie's parts are almost equally impressive, Ed with his usual bag of feebles, impossibles, and nut sac wreckage. Jamie's part seems to start off a little slow at first, but soon picks up pace, as you'll see with his rail annihilation - with and without shoes.
