Jump Off A Building
Toy Machine
1998, 40 minutes
Current Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Jump Off a Building features some great skating from Toy Machine when it was at it's peak. The video concentrates mainly on street skating, but transitions take up a healthy amount of footage, including segments shot at FDR Park. This video contains lots of stunts and pranks courtesy of Bam and company, then concludes with a short flick from the crew. The music is varying rock and roll types, from Sonic Youth to Billy Idol.

One factor that's great about Toy Machine is their ability to be artsy but not pussy, while still kicking max ass. Jump Off A Building is no different. The introduction is innocent, yet obnoxious: little figures being shuffled into the camera eye (artsy, get it). The second factor that makes Toy Machine great, is the level of talent amassed at the release of Jump Off A Building. Three years ago, Toy Machine looked like one of the top teams in skateboarding. This may have also caused the recent departures (shit happens?) from the 'chine dugout. With so many talents, could they all be harnessed under the same roof and still grow to fit their needs professionally and financially? Evidently not, as ex-Toy Machiners are currently involved in other successful projects. My brain, not my 12 inch taint, says Jump Off A Building captures Toy Machine at the peak of their, uhhh, glory?
